With a sparked interest for a new hobby, loads of rosemary, and the thought of a nice gesture during a pandemic, T.L. Soaps came to life!

COVID-19 generated a wave of hygienic precautions: wash our hands often, do not touch our faces, clean anything and everything we touched. At the start of the pandemic, West Virginia farmer Tommye Lou Rafes quickly realized that the rosemary she was growing might be helpful in this battle against the virus - rosemary is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial. Using rosemary-infused olive oil and rosemary essential oil, Tommye made the first batch of soap for her family, local friends, and CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) customers as a hygienic option during the difficult times.

Along with the soap, Tommye also included a description of rosemary’s health benefits and an important question: “What ingredients are in your store-bought soap?” The positive reactions to the benefits and the vague responses to the question were defining for T.L. Soaps, reinforcing its need to create products that were natural, advantageous, and homemade with compassion.

Shortly after came impressive feedback, skin improvement testimonies, curiosities for other skin issues, requests for more bars, and inquiries for additional fragrances. From there, T.L. Soaps expanded beyond Tommye’s family and local circles as well as beyond soaps, becoming what it is today - your stop for sustainably sourced, all natural, transparently homemade soaps and body products!
